Did you know?

Bandung Berkebun is part of a national initiative called Indonesia Berkebun, which initiated in the city of Jakarta in 2010 by a casual chat through Twitter. The initiative was awarded as “Web-Heroes” by Google Inc.

Sustainability and Replicability

The costs to implement urban gardens are not high, as the main resources needed are seeds and organic pesticides and fertilizers. Therefore, the initiative is very easy to be replicated: in Indonesia, urban farming movements such as Bandung Berkebun are present in 14 other cities of the country, under the name “Indonesia Berkebun”.

Lessons learned

Community gardening is a healthy, inexpensive activity that brings people closer to nature, and allows them to interact with each other in a socially, meaningful and physically productive way.
